Australia
Baz Luhrmans epic was a surprisingly good and moving film. Almost three hours long, but so full of drama (and cattle) that it didn't feel that long at all.
Obviously one can go on and make a pretty hefty anthropological analysis of the way the Aborigines are depicted in the film (culture vs. nature and all that...) but all in all it was good, and did discuss the issue of 'the lost generation' well. That is, the horrific way in which the Australian government took children that had been fathered by white men from their families and community, in order to 'breed the black out of them' (this practice was only stopped in 1974). This was done in specific institutions run by christian missionaries. Another great film discussing this is 'the Rabbit Fence', which I can highly recommend.
Ooohh, I almost forgot the most important and most delicious part of the whole film. You find a picture of it here.
Drool.
